Under the scheme of the Govt. of India
there should be at least one District Consumer Information Centre in each
district to be set up by a Voluntary Consumer Organisation and the Zilla
Parishad. For this purpose a sum of Rs.5 lakhs as recurring and non-recurring
grant are provided by the Govt. of India from the Consumer Welfare Fund. During
the year 34 applications were received from different districts. After due
enquiry about the activities of the VCOs regarding fulfilling the eligibility
criteria, 9 applications were recommended to the Govt. of India in the first
phase. The other proposals are under review.
