The
Govt. of India introduced an integrated awareness campaign titled Jagriti Shivir Yojana designed specially
to spread awareness among the BPL category of population by officers of the State Govt., District
Administration and local elected representatives who are directly concerned with
the poorest of the poor consumers. Various schemes have been introduced by the
Govt. of India and the State Govt. for the benefit of the poorer section of
consumers. The JSY is intended to spread awareness among consumers linked with
all such schemes. Under the scheme, each identified district will have an
allocation of Rs.50,000/- for the scheme to be available from Consumer Welfare
Fund. On the proposal of the Department, Govt. of India sanctioned the scheme
in four districts of the State namely, Coochbehar, Purulia, Hooghly and 24
Parganas (South). The scheme requires opening of a bank account by the District
Authority in a nationalised bank of the District. A proposal has been sent to
the Finance Department for this
